This online show takes its audience back 100 years to the beginnings of the first pure American genre of music, ragtime. Through narrative, anecdotes and piano selections (made available here as MIDI files), The Ragtime Centennial Show traces ragtime through its formative period, focusing primarily on the works of The King of Ragtime, Scott Joplin. The show includes two of my own compositions.

NEW!! All the music on this site has been remastered. I hope you enjoy the updated sound throughout the show.

There are a couple of ways that you can experience this online show. You can either choose to walk through the show step by step. Or, you can pick and choose any installment and/or song that you prefer. Feel free to email me, Rich Cromie with your questions or comments.

You are listening to "Hauling Trash", my newest rag. Only the most sublime of subject matter for this composer.

Can't hear the music? Does the music sound like a computer made it, not a piano? Then you probably need to download some MIDI software. Here are two links to get you started. Users of both PC and Mac formats can use Apple's Quicktime player, or the Crescendo player. There are plenty of other MIDI players out there, so feel free to find the one you like best.
