The Entertainer

Ragtime was repopularized by the Paul Newman/Robert Redford movie, "The Sting." Marvin Hamlisch did the score and played snippets of the rags throughout the movie, all of which led to a revival of ragtime in the early '70s -- when I became interested in ragtime. The Entertainer (1902) was by far the most popular rag to come out of this revival, largely due to its prominence in "The Sting." This was the first ragtime piece I ever learned, and is still one of the best "classic" ragtime pieces the world has ever seen. Most people don't know it has four strains.
